FAQs
Why go with the DIY option instead of a ready-made panel?
You have more flexibility to create your own starlight ceiling with the fibre optic kits and it’s easier on your budget, compared to ready-made panels.
The kits are delivered from our UK warehouse within two working days from order, while the panels are made-to-order and usually takes 7-8 weeks to deliver.
What do I have to consider before ordering?
Fibre optic kits are suitable if you have access to the void above your ceiling (e.g. loft area or sufficient space in a ceiling void) or you can create your special housing or a false ceiling that will accommodate the fibres and the light engine.
How do I decide from all the available options?
Measure the area you wish to cover with stars. We recommend 50-100 fibres per square meter. For a 2m x 2m area (4 sqm), we recommend 200-400 fibres.
You can then either check the small/medium-large section of here or compare options in the light engine comparison table and the fibre optic bundle comparison table.
The light engine’s port diameter determines the maxim fibre capacity. The larger the port the more fibre it can take.
What’s the difference between kits and light engines?
Some of our products come in a kit (light engine and optical fibres bundle together), while for others, you need to select the light engine and then add the optical fibre bundle separately.
How do I decide on the fibre optic bundle for the kit?
Once you know the area you want to cover and picked a light engine based on its features and optical fibre capacity, look at the available options in the fibre optic bundle comparison table. Most bundle options have different length variations. Consider the distance of the furthest star points from the light engine to determine which length variation is the most suitable for you. Please note that most bundles have mixed diameter and length fibres.
Which products are available?
If a product is out of stock, you won’t be able to add it to your cart. If you wish to order more than what we have in stock, the system will let you know the maxim quantities you can order.

Installation
Optical fibres can be installed on ceilings made of gypsum plasterboard, wood, perspex and stretch ceilings. Using appropriately sized drill bits (1 mm & 1.5 mm), you can make holes for your optical fibres in the layout of your choice, whether that's randomly distributed or in an ordered pattern.
Our installation guide and video provide more advice on how to install your star ceiling.
